Gift Aid, handled for you

On eligible donations, Charities Trust reclaims Gift Aid from HMRC and passes it straight to you. Up to 25% extra, with none of the admin.

How it works

How donations reach you

Your money moves through two regulated partners before it lands with you. We never hold it ourselves.

Donors choose you

A donor adds your charity to their Legacy portfolio and sets a monthly budget.

We collect and distribute

Stripe collects one Direct Debit and passes it to Charities Trust, who split it across the donor's chosen charities. Legacy never holds the funds.

You're paid via Charities Trust

Your share arrives as unrestricted income and may appear from Charities Trust on your bank statement.

Zero cost

What does it cost you? Nothing.

We don't charge charities to receive donations through Legacy. No sign-up fees, no platform fee, and you'll never be asked to pay to receive money donated to you.

What the donor sees is what they pay

The donor's budget is the final amount they pay. Before charities are paid, two things come out of their total, never charged to you.

Third-party costs (3.75%)

Stripe Direct Debit: 1% (min 20p)
Stripe Connect: 0.25%
Charities Trust: 2.5%

The donor's optional tip

Also carved out of the donor's total, never added on top. Legacy takes no cut of the 3.75%; tips fund our lean team and tech, and any year-end surplus is donated back to the causes our community supports.

Gift Aid

Gift Aid, handled for you.

Gift Aid adds an extra 25p for every £1 a UK taxpayer gives, at no cost to the donor. Charities Trust reclaims it from HMRC and passes it directly to your charity, so you never have to process or chase the claim yourself.

For handling it, Charities Trust charges 4% on the claimed Gift Aid only, not on the donation. The trade-off: hands-off extra income, with none of the admin.

Charities Trust fee (4%): −£1

Legacy lists the charities held by our distribution partner, Charities Trust. If they know you, our donors can find you.

It starts with Charities Trust

Charities Trust (Registered Charity No. 327489) is a charity themselves, on a mission to get more money to good causes. They power giving schemes like Legacy and Payroll Giving across the UK, holding the details of thousands of charities so donations can reach them securely.

Already on Legacy? You're all set.

It means Charities Trust already holds your details, including the bank details they use to pay you. That arrangement may have been set up years ago, before your current team, but it was always made with your charity's permission. There's nothing you need to do, donations simply arrive.
